Kale - a great winter feed option

Kale
Also known as Chou Moellier, Kales are winter active and mainly used as a "winter feed".

Kale can provide high dry matter/ hectare yields however for best results kale requires high soil fertility and good soil moisture.

Kale is suitable for cattle, sheep, and deer but the taller or giant types are best used for only cattle grazing, while the shorter, leafier cultivars are more suited to sheep and deer.

Higher sowing rates lead to thinner and more palatable stems.

Recommended sowing rate: 4 - 5 kgs per hectare
Seed treatments: Gaucho, Superstrike, Ultrastrike, Crop coat, SF Force Field Plus.

Purchase Gaucho seed treatment on brassica and WIN

Why use Gaucho?

With the brassica sowing season just around the corner we thought it a great time to refresh your mind on the benefits of using Gaucho seed treatment. Specialty Seeds have been firm advocates of using Gaucho seed treatment on the brassica seed it sells as we believe it offers our clients the following benefits.
  1. Treating the seed reduces the need to apply foliar insecticides
  2. Your seed is protected from the moment it's sown
  3. Proven brassica protection as its been used since 1996
  4. Wide insect protection these include Argentine stem weevil, Springtails, Nysius fly and Aphids
  5. No harmful effects on beneficial insects including earthworms
We also like the fact Gaucho is applied directly to the seed, and is more environmentally friendly than foliar and granular insecticides.

As well as getting all of these benefits Bayer Crop Sciences are offering you the chance to win one of two trips to the Melbourne Grand Prix that runs between the 13th and 16th of March 2014.

How to enter the draw:

Every 5kg purchase of gaucho treated brassica seed between 15 August and 30 November 2013 gives you one entry to go into the draw.

Melbourne is a great place to spend a few days in and having passed through it while the Grand Prix is on can tell you the city is abuzz with the event. To wet your appetite go and check out the Melbourne Grand Prix website
