Lucerne:
Icon: Icon was selected on plant characteristics including improved disease and pest resistance. Icon is a very good dual purpose hay, silage and grazing cultivar because of its resistance to grazing which it was bred for, from selections of fields grazed by sheep and cattle. Icon has low crowns that will tolerate closer grazing, particularly by sheep.
SuperSonic Alfalfa ‘SuperSonic’ Alfalfa (Lucerne) will be introduced onto the New Zealand Alfalfa seed market in the spring of 2007 by Specialty Seeds (NZ) Ltd. SuperSonic is a vastly different cultivar when compared to the currently used Alfalfa cultivars in New Zealand. The difference that SuperSonic exhibits will satisfy the needs of the traditional New Zealand Alfalfa growers for, silage and hay making, but also open up new Alfalfa markets i.e. in pasture seed blends, single sward grazing stands etc. Specialty Seeds have adopted the international grading system for Alfalfa in regard to winter activity / dormancies ratings. Under this standardized system Alfalfa cultivars are graded from 1 to 10. With 1 is being the most winter dormant and 10 is being the most winter active. Under this system SuperSonic is rated 9 making it a very winter active cultivar. SuperSonic has unique attributes in its breeding that have overcome some of the previous disadvantages that highly winter active Alfalfas experienced. SuperSonic will be available for limited commercial release in the spring of 2007.
54V09 Winter Dormant Lucerne 54V09 Lucerne has outstanding field potential with superior feed value. Its high pest and disease resistance makes it the perfect option where this kind of pressure is high.
Yorkshire Fog :
Massey Basyn Yorkshire Fog: Back into production Massey Basyn tolerates wet, infertile and acidic soil types. Used for forestry and erosion control areas. Massey Basyn contains flavanoids and tannins both have been shown to improve stock health when used for stock grazing. Note: In short supply.
Lawn Seed:
1 Kg and 5 Kg lawn seed packs Specialty Seeds have recently upgraded their lawn seed packs. New plastic 1 and 5 kg packs with full planting instructions. These high quality packs reflex the high quality seed we provide within them. For any enquiries please contact us.
Cool Season Developers Lawn Blend The Developers cool season lawn blend contains 50% Italian ryegrass, 45 % turf perennial ryegrasses and 5% browntop. It has been designed to allow seed sowing to continue over the winter months. The Italian ryegrass is quick to establish in the lower ground temperatures that are typical over the next few winter months. It also acts as a "nursery" for the slower establishing turf perennial ryegrass and browntop. The Italian ryegrass we have selected is fine leaved and easy to mow and closely resembles turf perennial ryegrass. Close mowing over the late spring and summer months will make it disappear leaving the turf grasses establised. We recommend this mix for a wide range of soil types and soil fertility situations during the winter / early spring.
Vineyard Blend Vineyard blend has been one of our top selling mixes over the last 3 to 4 years. Our vineyard blend is a blend of turf perennial ryegrass and turf fescues and is used to replace pastoral grasses historically used inter - row in many vineyards / orchards. The main benefits in using the vineyard blend includes: *Less mowing, saving mowing costs. *Excellent working platform. *Aesthetically more pleasing to look at when compared to pastoral grasses. Vineyard blend is quick to establish and can be established in conventionally worked paddocks or by direct drilling.
New Novel Endophtye:
AR 37 Endophyte: AR 37 was delveloped by Agrisearch Grasslands, along with commercial partners Agricom, PGG Wrightson Seeds, Meat & Wool, Grasslands and FRST. AR 37 produces none of the alkaloids found in other endophytes, but produces a unique range of alkaloids called Janthitrems. Janthitrems have never been found in any other ryegrass/ endophyte association. Janthitrems probably have a role in activity against insects, while having no affect on animal production. Janthitrems may in rare situations cause mild and transient ryegrass staggers. AR37 has a number of benifits including improved insect resistence, livestock and agronomic performance. Ryegrasses inoculated with AR37 has shown resistance to Black Beetle, Argentine Stem Weevil, Root Aphid, Pasture Mealy Bug and Porina. Cultivars available in AR37 for the 2010 season are Commando, Extreme, Halo, Hillary, Kamo and Samson. Alto and Arrow will be available in very limited quantities.
Persian Clover:
Persian clover originates from the Middle East or more specifically in Turkey, Iran and Iraq where it performs remarkably in summer dry areas. Persian Clover can be used as either a special purpose forage crop or used in pasture seed mixes with Italian ryegrasses, cereals or brassicas. Over recent years there has been a great deal of interest in Persian clovers due to its self regenerating and highly nutritive plant properties.
Mihi: Very late flowering type with proven increased dry matter yield into late spring early summer.
Red Clover:
Tuscan Red Clover: Tuscan red clover is a new release from NZ Agriseeds. Bred for a high yield. This yield advantage when compared to other red clovers is largely due to its improved persistance. Tuscan is suitable for all farm types, especially in summer moist or irrigated areas with fertile conditions. Tuscan is the earlist flowering red clover variety. Please contact us for more details.
Ryegrasses:
Abermagic: Abermagic is a new release from Germinal Seeds Ltd. AberMagic HSG is the next generation of diploid perennial ryegrass from the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research (IGER) breeding programme. It has been bred to raise the bar again for Energy – Protein Ratio allowing increased digestibility and higher dry matter intakes – key for animal performance.AberMagic HSG offers all the traditional yardsticks such as yield, persistence and disease resistance but more importantly offers NZ farmers the highest feed quality available from a diploid perennial ryegrass. Abermagic is a late flowering type + 19 days
