Popular Brassica Mixes:
The following suggested mixes are commonly used by many of our clients. The reasons given for them include, it provides greater variety in the diet, can increase total dry matter yield, may help reduce animal health problems and can provide extended seasonal dry matter production.

Ryegrass / Brassica Mix:
  • 10 kgs Diploid Italian type (i.e. Kano) ryegrass or 15 kgs Tetraploid Italian type (i.e. Devour) ryegrass with either:
  • 500 grams Winter / Summer Turnip seed (gaucho treated) or
  • 2 kgs Rape / Forage Brassica (gaucho treated)
(Not recommended with either Swedes or Kale)
Brassica / Herbs / Clover Mix: The following mix works best with mutiple grazing brassicas and is not recommend with either Swedes or Kale.
  • 500 grams Summer Turnips or 2 kgs Rape / Forage Brassica with either:
  • 1-2 kgs Chicory and or
  • 2 kgs Red clover and or 2 - 3 kgs Tonic plantain.
  • 2 kgs Mihi Persian clover and/or 2 - 3 kg Tonic Plantain
Often when grazing has finished in the mid to late autumn these paddocks are then direct drilled with a permanent pasture mix.
